Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the decision by members of the Fórsa trade union to accept the terms of the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) proposals on library services. The proposals were backed by the majority of Fórsa members in a recent ballot.
Minister Ring said:
“The endorsement of the WRC proposals by the Fórsa members opens up the way for the continued technological development of the library service. This news is particularly welcome ahead of the launch of the 2018-2022 Library Strategy on Thursday which will see positive changes in relation to public access to the libraries.
“The passing of the ballot also opens up opportunities for staff within the library service to fill city and county librarian posts and for the agreement of workforce plans. It will also allow for opportunities for staff movement within the library service.
“I would like to thank the Workplace Relations Commission for their role in facilitating this process and I commend the members of Fórsa for voting in favour of the proposals which will allow for greater public access to and usage of our libraries.”
