Note
As from 29th December, 1937, on which date the new Constitution came into operation, the following changes took place.
- The 8th Executive Council became known as the 1st Government.
- The title of President of the Executive Council was changed to that of Taoiseach;
- the Vice-President to that of Tánaiste ;
- the Parliamentary Secretary to the President to that of Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach;
- the Secretary the Executive Council to that of Secretary to the Government ; and
- the Assistant Secretary to the Executive Council to that of Assistant Secretary to the Government.
There was, however, no new election and no change in the personnel of the Government. The members of the 8th Executive Council who were in office on the date of the coming into operation of the Constitution, i.e. 29.12.37, received formal appointments from the President of Ireland on 28.6.38.
