Taoiseach Micheál Martin visit to Belfast 8 October 2021

Taoiseach Micheál Martin will travel to Belfast for a programme of events on Friday 8 October.

On Friday morning, the Taoiseach will speak at an all-island business event jointly hosted by the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chambers Ireland exploring the all-island and global challenge of climate change in advance of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in November. The First Minister and Deputy First Minister will also attend.

The Taoiseach will then visit and meet participants in Women’s Tec an initiative in North Belfast which helps women to train in non-traditional sectors and trades.

He will travel to Queen’s University where he will visit the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research and meet the President and researchers involved in all-island research cooperation, a key area being advanced through the Shared Island Fund. He will also meet a group of students from the University to hear about their current issues and concerns.

During the visit, the Taoiseach will also meet the leaders of the main political parties in Northern Ireland for discussions on current political developments. He will take the opportunity to brief them on the record €3.5bn budget for collaborative cross-border investment announced this week with the publication of the National Development Plan, including the doubling of the Shared Island Fund to €1bn to 2030.
