The Taoiseach, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman and Minister of State for Disability, Anne Rabbitte today held a roundtable discussion with a number of disability groups and people with disabilities.
The Taoiseach invited representatives of disability groups to Government Buildings to hear their views on disability matters and experiences.
The Taoiseach said:
“I invited a number of disability groups to hear firsthand what is working and the challenges people continue to face in accessing services across the country.
“I am committed to continuing this engagement and ensuring people with disabilities are given equal treatment and that barriers are broken down so they can reach their full potential.
“As Taoiseach, bettering the lives of people with disabilities is a priority for me. I will work day and night to challenge the system so that services are improved for people - it’s what they deserve.”
Minister O’Gorman said:
“Ahead of the coming Oireachtas term, today’s meeting with a range of disabled persons’ organisations gave myself, the Taoiseach and Minister Rabbitte another valuable opportunity to hear directly from DPOs on the challenges that the one million people in Ireland with a disability or long-lasting condition face.
“It also provided a chance to outline the progress being made in our Department and across Government to deliver rights-based improvements to the daily lives of all people with a disability.”
Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte said:
“It's great to once again sit down with disability groups and organisations.
“Engagement with stakeholders is central to making the UNCRPD a reality and, as always, their insights will be invaluable as we work to build a more inclusive society, as well as informing our approach to Budget 2025.
“Disability rights are human rights and this Government is committed to working with disability services and representative groups to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to participate fully in Irish life.”
