The documents you need to submit for your passport application will depend on your method of application and the type of application you are submitting.
For online applications, you will be reminded of the documents you need to submit with your passport application at the end of the online application process.
Unless stated otherwise, original documents must be supplied. Please do not send photocopies, short-form birth certificates (which do not include parents’ details) or laminated certificates. Certified translations are required if documents are not in English or Irish.
Other than their own valid travel document (passport or ID card), no particular official authorisation is required for minors of any EU country to enter or leave Ireland.

If your most recent passport is due to expire within 12 months or has expired less than 5 years ago, you will not need to send any additional documents to the Passport Service to support your application.
If you are renewing your passport more than 12 months in advance of its expiry date, you will need to submit your current passport with your application.
If your passport has been expired for more than 5 years you will need to apply as a First Time Applicant .

After informing the Passport service your passport was lost or stolen, they will report the details to Interpol and the passport will be marked as no longer valid for travel.
If you report a passport as lost or stolen do not travel on it.
If your passport is lost, stolen or damaged while you are overseas and you need a travel document to return home, your nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate may be able to help.
Losing your passport may affect your application for future passports. Losing two or more passports may mean you do not get a full 10 year passport, depending on how many passports you have lost or had stolen over the last 10 years.
If your passport has been damaged you will need to return the damaged passport when you are making an application for a replacement.
If your passport is damaged do not travel on it. It may cause difficulties when you are crossing international borders.
