A Street Furniture Licence is required to put tables and chairs on the footpath outside a Cafe, Restaurant, Hotel or Bar in the City.
Applications for these licences are dealt with under the Planning & Development Regulations 2001 (made under the Planning & Development Act, 2000)
A licence may only be granted for an area immediately adjacent to the premises, which is under the applicant’s control where food is sold for consumption on the premises.
Every licence is issued subject to general conditions.
If a licence holder is in breach of the general conditions Dublin City Council is empowered under Section 71 to remove unlicensed items on the Footpath/Roadway.
The cost of the removal of the items is €100 per item and €35 per week or part thereof.
