Role

Head of European Affairs

European Affairs are responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring the department's European and some international business, particularly cross-cutting issues which may involve a number of functions and departments.

In addition, the function works with other areas of Government to shape Ireland’s strategic approach to the Future of Europe and the EU Leader Agenda, and plays an active role in encouraging greater engagement and collaboration with European counterparts on relevant Justice issues.

While the team are based in Dublin, they work closely with staff in Brussels and Strasbourg seconded to Ireland’s Permanent Representation to the EU. The function also supports both the Minister and the department in discharging the department’s EU and Council of Europe responsibilities and in communicating and representing Ireland's interests internationally.
